Volunteers are at the heart of our organisation - both for service delivery and for Trustee Governance. We have around 40 volunteers and are constantly recruiting and training to build capacity.
New Volunteer Role May 2025
If you like chatting to people and would like to support your local Citizens Advice, this volunteer role may suit you: We need a volunteer to contact clients by phone to follow up on outcomes from the support they received from Sudbury Citizens Advice. There will be a small amount of in-house training on starting. This role can be done 2–3 hours a week in the office between the hours of 9.00 am – 3 pm, to suit the volunteer, on any day except Friday. If you are interested and would like more details, please contact recruitment@sudburycab.org.uk
Adviser Basic training:
We ask that our volunteers commit to 1 day a week for a minimum of 1 year, although of course you can volunteer more of your time if you wish.
We have a Training Lead, who is available 4 days a week and will meet with you regularly to support you through the initial training process. Our online platform, Skillbook, is where the majority of your training will be completed. You will also observe experienced advisers, and receive face-to-face training. There will be opportunities to attend external training if you wish. The training process takes between 4 and 6 months, although this is dependent on the individual. As much of our training is online, and we use a digital case management system, we ask that you are reasonably confident in using IT and digital technology.
Trustee Training
Trustees are recruited to provide a balanced set of boardroom skills that is agreed by the Board. Trustees are given a comprehensive induction and invited to follow and get involved in all aspects of the operation. Trustees are not qualified to give advice.
If you are interested in becoming an adviser, email to recruitment@sudburycab.org.uk
Citizens Advice aims to treat all volunteers fairly and consistently. We hope you will always feel able to share your ideas, views and any other concerns you have. We need to know when things are going well and if they go wrong.
