DLA claimants who were born after 8 April 1948 and are 16 or over will be invited to claim PIP at some point over the next few years. There is currently no clear guidance from The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) as to when this will happen.

The DWP will write to claimants and invite them to apply for PIP. The process will involve completing a form on how their condition affects their ability to carry out tasks, as well as attending a medical assessment. Sudbury and District Citizens Advice strongly recommends that all claimants get help to complete the form before they send it off.

There are charities available locally that will do this for free and no one should pay for this service.

Sudbury and District Citizens Advice have trained advisers who have extensive experience of completing benefit forms. They will fill them in for free at the office in Sudbury. In exceptional cases they will even visit a claimant at home.

If, for any reason, a claimant is not satisfied with their award then we will discuss whether they should challenge the decision, and in some cases help them through the appeals process.

If you would like to discuss PIP, DLA or any other benefits please do not hesitate to contact us at Sudbury and District Citizens Advice:01787 374671or email:advice@sudburycab.org.uk

Worried about your benefits?

At Sudbury and District Citizens Advice we are finding that many people are worried about how the welfare reform changes will affect them. The constant news coverage around Personal Independence Payments (PIP) is alarming people claiming Disability Living Allowance (DLA) as they are concerned that they will lose their benefits.
